If you're an entrepreneur in India who wants to do something about the country's massive piles of plastic waste, you're in luck.
The government of India's Department of Economic Affairs has launched the country's first job accelerator for plastics, textiles, and fashion waste management, Quartz reports.
The nine-month program, called the Circular Innovation Cohort, is designed to help India's small and medium-sized businesses "create dignified jobs for people living in extreme poverty," Upaya Social Ventures co-CEO A B Chakravarthy says in a press release.
"These ventures create business models that turn environmental challenges into economic and social opportunities," he adds.
Quartz notes that India's waste management and circular economy sectors have the potential to "transform the sector through innovation and social inclusion."
The accelerator program is being run by Upaya, Global Business Inroads, and rePurpose Global.
"We are excited to support our next Dignified Jobs Accelerator cohort of SGBs that are tackling plastic, and textile & fashion waste along with our partners, Global Business Inroads and rePurpose Global," says Chakravarthy.
