"It takes courage, dedication, and of course, it takes heart."
That's what Wendy Doyle, president and CEO of the United WE women's empowerment group, told a crowd at Kansas City's Takes Heart: A Celebration of Women Entrepreneurs event Tuesday.
Doyle, whose mother started her own accounting business in 1939, said she was inspired by her own role model.
"Her mission to lift up other women is something she modeled for me and for other women in the community," she said, per the Kansas City Star.
The event, which was designed by Laura Crossley to celebrate the courage, creativity, and tenacity of women-owned businesses in Kansas City, featured interactive tiles that scanned a smartphone to reveal inspiring stories, women-owned businesses, and entrepreneurial resources.
"As entrepreneurs and leaders in our organizations, we all have a responsibility to ensure that the women in our organizations can thrive," Crossley said.
