Richard II is coming to the Asheville, NC, stage this summer.
The Montford Park Players will perform the English king's rivalry with his successor, Henry IV, in the 2024 season, titled Muse of Fire, per the Asheville Citizen-Times.
Performances begin May 31 and run through Oct.
27.
Director Jason Williams says the play is "one of my favorite histories after having performed in it once."
Emilie Soffe will play King Richard, alongside Eric Vik as Henry Bolingbroke, per a press release.
The show is part of the Connect Beyond Festival, which will feature performances, panels, film screenings, and workshops on Friday, June 7; Saturday, June 8; and Sunday, June 9.
"We designed this year's festival to be a little smaller, more intimate, and scheduled in a way that guests can attend everything if they want to," says Connect Beyond's director, Jessica Tomasin.
"There's no overlap in events, and there's breaks for lunch and dinner," she adds.
"It's truly going to be a really great way to connect in a time when people feel more disconnected than ever."
