"We're not Pollyanna-ish about the system, we're not saying that people don't have challenges," says Jacqui Wallis, CEO of Genius Within, a social enterprise in the UK that helps neurodiverse people find jobs and overcome barriers to doing so.
About 15% of the UK population is neurodiverse, and 40% of those employees report being "impacted" by their condition at work on "most days," per the Guardian.
Yet two-thirds of neurodiverse employees fear discrimination from management, according to Genius Within's report.
Wallis says it's time to "flip the script" and "embrace'systemic inclusion'" in the workplace.
Genius Within has been helping more than 24,000 people over the past year, and it just got a $500,000 investment from the investment arm of the Big Issue.
The investment will help develop a strengths-based assessment platform that asks people 66 questions about things they find hard and easy at work.
"It tells you the things you're good at, gives you the information about the things that you're competent at," Wallis says.
"And then it gives you your areas of challenge or development."
For example, someone who struggles with spatial awareness might be offered tips to engage their other senses
