Sri Lanka's Alliance Finance Company is one of the first financial institutions in South Asia to be certified as socially responsible by the International Council for Sustainability Standardsand it's putting its money where its mouth is.
The bank, which has a special focus on rural development, says it will invest in projects that create "significant social and environmental benefits," as well as financial returns "making sure that nobody is left behind," per a press release.
The bank says it's the first financial institution in South Asia to be certified under SSCI's holistic sustainability standards, which "set a benchmark for responsible financial practices both locally and globally."
The SSCI standards "are the first measurable and certifiable holistic sustainability standard for value-driven financial institutions," per the press release.
Alliance Finance is one of four pioneering financial institutions in the world to be certified this year.
