That's what a management institute in India is banking on with its first-of-its-kind Social Entrepreneur of the Year Award, which it says is designed "to recognize and honor pioneering social entrepreneurs within tribal communities."
The award, which will be given out in 2024, "underscores commitment to fostering inclusive development and entrepreneurial spirit," per the Jamshedpur-based School of International Management.
The eligibility criteria, per the Times of India, include having been in operation for at least three years and having "both relatively new ventures and those that have stood the test time."
The jury, which is made up of industry practitioners and academic scholars, will choose the winner from among this year's honorees, who will receive a citation, a cash prize, and the opportunity to appear at a ceremony in New Delhi in April, reports the Indian Express.
"These individuals, often working against odds, are not just creating economic value but also driving social change within their communities," the award's creators say, noting that tribal entrepreneurs "often working against odds" are also "driving social change within their communities."
