Fatma Samoura is the first female secretary general of FIFA, the sport's governing body, and she's just been given the first Lifetime Leadership Award from the Africa Women Innovation and Entrepreneurship Forum.
"She has played a key role in increasing the prize money for the Women's World Cup and promoting gender equality in football," the forum said in a statement, per CNN.
"She is an inspirational role model for other women, and we are truly excited about honoring and celebrating her tonight."
The Lifetime Leadership Award is given to "outstanding innovators and business owners in Africa and across industry sectors, for their economic performance and contribution to Africa's growth and social development," per the forum.
The other eight winners of the 2023 AWIEF Awards: Young Entrepreneur: Salamba Diene, CEO of Biosene Sarl, Senegal.
Ifeoma Malo, co-founder and CEO of Clean Technology Hub in Nigeria.
Tech Entrepreneur: Kidist Tesfaye, CEO of YeneHealth in Ethiopia.
Agri Entrepreneur: Nonopa Tenza, MD of Kevinot Farming in South Africa.
Social Entrepreneur: Noelar Njohjam, founder of Epilepsy Awareness, Aid & Research Association in Cameroon.
