An award-winning hip-hop record label in the UK is going from strength to strength thanks to some cash from a local government.
Sound Communities, a social enterprise that helps "disadvantaged young people to engage, create, and consult using radio, music, and creative production," received a $9,950 grant from the Torbay Social Enterprise Grant Fund to help turn Oceanside Records into a "more sustainable, youth-led social enterprise," reports the Torquay Herald Sun.
The grant "has had a huge impact on our ability to support Oceanside Records," says Sound Communities director Kate Rudman.
"The funding has allowed us to develop an action plan, engage more young people to get involved, produce and release more music and music videos, and set up regular performances and open mic nights," she adds.
The label, which was launched in 2017, has already won awards, including Best Music Video at the national Youth Music Awards 2022 for the song " Torbay," per a press release.
The release notes that the label's music tackles issues such as mental health, lack of opportunities, childhood trauma, and their take on the challenges which they face.

In the world of social enterprises, failure is a cringe-worthy moment nobody wants to talk about. But, social entrepreneurs can benefit from their failures.
