The US State Department's annual list of the world's most powerful women is out, and it includes a woman from Nigeria.
Inya Lawal was one of 19 women around the world selected for the "Most Powerful Women's mentoring program" last year, in which she was mentored by Goldman Sachs executive Dina Powell.
She's now the lead program partner at the US Consulate in Lagos for the US Department of State's Global Women's Mentoring Program, which helps women around the world start and grow their businesses.
"My journey started when I curated an event for the Consulate and then was eventually selected as one of 19 women worldwide to travel to the US for the Fortune US Department of State Global Women's Mentoring Program," Lawal tells Fast Company.
"I was selected as a program and implementing partner to run their White House Initiative, the Academy for Women Entrepreneurs (AWE) in Nigeria."
She says the program has "transformed the lives of many women" in Nigeria.
The AWE program has trained 720 entrepreneurs so far, 100 in 2019, 120 in 2020, 250 in 2021, and 250 in 2022, and the US is in preparation for the 2023 program.
