"It's a marathon, not a sprint," Elaine Brown says. Brown is the CEO of The Edinburgh Remakery, a social enterprise that diverts waste from landfill and teaches sustainability skills in Edinburgh, Scotland.
It also won her the Environmental Champion title at this year's WISE100 Awards, reports Pioneers Post.
So what can social entrepreneurs do to protect the planet? A recent WISE webinar, "How to prioritize the planet as a social enterprise," featured Brown and Alison Marjoram, head of development at P3 Charity, who shared six tips.
Among them: "It's the right thing to do for the people we support, for the charity itself and our ongoing sustainability, and also morally we have a responsibility to act on this," says Marjoram.
"Before taking action, you need to ask yourself: who is going to be involved? Who is going to lead it? What do you want to achieve? What are your organizational priorities?" She also suggested: "Before taking action, you need to ask yourself: 'Is there a way that you can buy that is more ethically and environmentally sustainable?'"
