MacKenzie Scott, one of the world's richest people and the ex-wife of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, has donated $15 million to a charity that provides affordable eyeglasses to poor people around the world, Business Insider reports.
Scott's donation to VisionSpring will help generate $1 billion in income for agricultural and artisan workers in India, Bangladesh, Ghana, Kenya, and Uganda over the next decade.
"The gift from Ms Scott is an incredible acknowledgment of the power of a simple pair of eyeglasses to unlock earning, learning, safety, and wellbeing for people vulnerable to poverty," VisionSpring CEO Ella Gudwin says in a press release.
