The UN has named 17 young people from around the world to serve as "Young Leaders for the Sustainable Development Goals" in 2022.
The recipients, who are between the ages of 17 and 29, "demonstrate immense resilience, resourcefulness, and leadership in finding innovative solutions to the world's biggest challenges," Jayathma Wickramanaya, the UN's Envoy on Youth, says in a press release.
Among the young leaders: Alyssa Carson, a 21-year-old from the US, who hopes to become an astronaut; she's a medical doctor and fashion designer in France.
She's also a champion of girls' education and robotics.
Richard Curtis, a 27-year-old from the UK, is a champion of climate change.
He's the founder of a group called the Dream Foundation, which aims to raise $1 billion to fight the effects of climate change, CNN reports.
The winners will serve two-year terms beginning in 2022, and will attend the UN General Assembly's annual meeting in New York in September.
