"We are seeing technology disruptions all around us promoting growth and holistic development and at Schaeffler India we are conscious of this fact and therefore announced this platform," Santanu Ghoshal, the company's VP of HR and head of sustainability in India, says in a press release announcing the winners of the automotive supplier's Social Innovator Fellowship Program.
The program, part of the company's social development initiative, was announced in the third quarter of this year; 150 entries were received in response to the call for ideas in areas such as education for the underprivileged, health and nutrition, renewable energy and environment, water conservation, and waste management.
Out of those 150 entries, 11 were selected for an eight-week fellowship in which they'll work with the company to develop and scale their ideas, Quartz reports.
The first-place winner, Anshu Gupta, will receive a $5,000 stipend for his idea "to understand the core of issues" related to youth from "disadvantaged backgrounds," per the press release.
He'll also receive mentorship from Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad.
"It is heartening to see so many passionate ideas aided by technology, potentially impacting the social fabric in a positive way," Harsha Kadam, CEO of Schaeffler India
