In an effort to spur women and girls into science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) careers, India's government is now offering a one-year fellowship for community innovators.
The National Institute of Innovation (NITI) Aayog, in collaboration with the United Nations Development Program, is accepting applications for the fellowship, which focuses on solving community problems, per the Times of India.
"This fellowship is an ingenious way to engage the young change makers as well as various other stakeholders in the community innovation ecosystem in building holistic and inclusive innovations," says NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant in a press release.
Contenders must be between the ages of 18 and 35, have a compelling idea for solving a community problem, and be from a low-income or marginalized background.
They'll be mentored by government officials and given the opportunity to work on their idea at one of the more than 100 community centers run by the government, where they'll also have the chance to network and learn entrepreneurial skills, per the release.
