Earth Day is coming up on April 22, and one group is taking advantage of it to raise awareness about a serious problem: climate change.
In a press release, the World Wildlife Fund says it's holding events in more than a dozen countries to raise money to fight the effects of global warming, including the melting of glaciers.
The glaciers themselves aren't making a big deal out of the fact that they store about three-quarters of Earth's freshwater, but the fact that they're melting is, in the words of the World Wildlife Fund, "a significant threat to both the environment and human society."
In fact, if all of the world's glaciers melted at the rate they're melting, the sea level would rise by about 230 feet, flooding every coastal city on the planet, the release notes.
"Urgent action is needed to mitigate the impacts of glacial melt, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and adapt to the changing climate to minimize the potential consequences of this ongoing environmental crisis," the World Wildlife Fund says.
