Two young women in Bangladesh have been named as finalists for the Global Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award in the social entrepreneurship category, the New York Times reports.

Zarin Tasnim and Waziha Islam Taaseen, founders of Shonkhcil and Sastya Sheba Limited, respectively, were chosen out of more than 400 applicants from around the world.

They'll be competing against other finalists for the award, which is organized by UK-based Youth Business International.

They'll attend a five-day bootcamp in London with 30 other entrepreneurs in June.

The nine finalists will then travel to YBI's Global Summit in Nairobi, Kenya, in October 2024, where one entrepreneur will be named the award's Global Young Entrepreneur of the Year.

"The selection of Zarin Tasnim and Waziha Islam Taaseen as finalists reflects the exceptional entrepreneurial spirit thriving within Bangladesh," Manzoor Hasan OBE, chairperson of Bangladesh Youth Enterprise, says in a press release.

"We are immensely proud of their achievements and optimistic about the impact they will continue to make on society."
