When Sharan Hegde applied to Columbia University's business school, he figured his content-creation work would take a back seat to his MBA application.
Instead, he ended up giving up his business degree in order to "build something of my own, something which I control," he tells Entrepreneur.
"Even if I am not relevant again in the future, this something that I create will last."
Hegde is the founder of Finance With Sharan, which teaches people about finance and investments through his YouTube channel, which has more than 6 million subscribers, reports the Wall Street Journal.
Hegde says he started the channel as a "simple finance course" a few years ago, but it soon grew into a one-person club called the 1% finance club.
Now, Hegde says he's giving up his MBA so that he can "build something of my own, something which I create.
And even if I am not relevant again in the future, this something that I create will last."
