"We have a 30-plus year connection through barbecues, surfing trips, and watching each other's kids grow up," Sean O'Brien tells New Zealand's Stuff.co.nz.
"It's that enduring friendship we value above all else."
O'Brien and his partner, Jason Ennor, are the co-CEOs of MyHR, a New Zealand-based HR software company that's now looking to expand into North America.
O'Brien started his own graphic design business when he was 26, and Ennor was a HR professional with more than 10 years of experience before founding MyHR with O'Brien a decade ago, Business Insider reports.
"We have a standing weekly meeting and will only cancel it if we've already talked that week or are due to meet face-to-face that week anyway," O'Brien tells New Zealand's Stuff.co.nz.
"It's also about respecting their friendship and prioritizing that with down-time and shared experiences that aren't business related," O'Brien adds.
MyHR is currently based in New Zealand, Australia, and Canada.
