That's because the government is encouraging people to spend money that could benefit the communities in which they live.
The Sabah state government is hosting a two-day "Festivscape: Buy For Impact" event Sept.
30 and Oct.
1 at Kuala Lumpur's Telekom Museum that will feature 30 social enterprises that address "pressing social, economic, and environmental issues in Malaysia," per a statement from the Sabah Creative Economy and Innovation Center.
The idea is to encourage government, corporations, and the general public to buy from impact-driven enterprises that address "pressing social, economic, and environmental issues," says Viviantie Sarjuni, the center's general manager.
Last year, she says, 10 social enterprises from Sabah took part in a similar event in Kuala Lumpur and managed to rack up sales of more than $70,000, per the Daily Express.
"What holds the utmost significance, beyond mere sales figures, is the invaluable experience and exposure gained by our participating social enterprises who join us in this movement," Sarjuni says.
