The winner of this year's "Woman Entrepreneur of the Year" category at the Women in Entrepreneurship Awards (WIEA) in Ghana has a new title to add to her resume: "Persons with Disability Entrepreneur of the Year."
The new category, which was announced at the launch of this year's edition of the awards in Accra, seeks to recognize people with disabilities who make a difference in their communities, the Ghana News Agency reports.
The general manager of WIEA, Emma-Marie Deeku, hopes the new category will inspire others with disabilities to get involved in entrepreneurship.
The competition for this year's " Woman Entrepreneur of the Year" category included 25 other categories, including "Beauty Entrepreneur of the Year," " Beverage Brand of the Year," "Most Promising Entrepreneur of the Year," "Family Business of the Year," "Made in Ghana Product of the Year," "Social Entrepreneur of the Year," "Micro/Small Business Entrepreneur of the Year," "Financial Service Provider of the Year," and the "Woman Entrepreneur Under 25 of the Year."
(The winner of last year's " Woman Entrepreneur of the Year" award in Ghana was the first woman to cross the Atlantic.)
