Tens of thousands of people took to the streets of an Italian city over the weekend for a gay pride parade, the AP reports.
According to the ANSA news agency, the parade was held in Salento to promote LGBTQ rights and to show support for the mayor of Lecce, Carlo Salvemini, who's in charge of the region that includes the city.
"Go back to having faith in politics," Salvemini told the crowd.
"Have the patience of a monk, the courage of a warrior, and the enthusiasm of a child."
