Bangladesh's Daily Star, the country's most widely read newspaper, reports that its founder and chairman, Rouf Ahmed, has died at the age of 80.
Ahmed founded the newspaper in 1971 during the country's war of independence from Pakistan, and was its chairman until his death, the AP reports.
He also founded Ekushey Television, Bangladesh's first private TV channel, and was a major investor in several other media companies.
"He was a hard taskmaster with a kind streak that belied his tough exterior and showed his true traits of affection and care," the Star's editor-in-chief writes in a tribute.
"He had no time for inefficiency, but all the time for a creative, hardworking colleague."
